Our Medical Staff

Aurora Medical Clinic has a skilled and compassionate team of professionals who are dedicated to working together to provide you with the highest level of care.

Our medical staff includes medical professionals, nurses, dietitians, allied health professionals and dedicated support and technical staff.

Dr. Juan Soto, MD, CCFP

Dr. Soto is a family physician with clinical interest in the management and prevention of obesity and related medical conditions. He started his career in New Brunswick and Alberta before moving to Ontario. For the last ten years he has been involved in family practice, clinical research, university preceptorship and the development and implementation of obesity and chronic disease management programs in several clinics and organizations.

He holds a Certification in Family Medicine by the College of Family Physicians of Canada, SCOPE certification by The World Obesity Federation, Diploma in Travel Medicine by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and has completed an Advanced Curriculum Fellowship Program in Obesity Management with The Obesity Medical Association.

Offers his patients  prevention and management of chronic medical conditions using a multidisciplinary team and a person-centered approach, and by doing so, he hopes to contribute to the health of our community and future generations.

Dr. Ashfique Adlul, MD, CCFP

Dr. Adlul is a family physician providing comprehensive care for patients from all walks of life. His special interests includes management of diabetes, heart conditions, women’s health and mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety.

He was fortunate to receive his medical training from United States, West Indies and Canada. As a result, he has learned to care for patients from various backgrounds, ethnicities and views in a compassionate, non-judgmental way. He completed his residency training in the prestigious McMaster Family Medicine program. Dr. Adlul holds certification in Family Medicine by the College of Family Physicians of Canada.

His philosophy of medicine is to provide a patient centered medical care. Dr. Adlul is there for his patients  ready to guide and provide information, so that they can feel in charge of their health and make an informed decision about their own healthcare.

Maria Fisher, RD

Maria Fisher is a Registered Dietitian with over 20 years experience working in diverse and innovative roles. Her focus and interest are in the education of evidence-based nutrition practices for the prevention and management of chronic diseases.

She has spent her career providing nutrition education to broad audiences, ranging from healthcare professionals (to assist them in counseling their own patients) to individual clients wanting to improve their health and wellbeing.

She also works with our team educating individuals and groups on practical nutrition principles and helps clients develop healthy eating strategies to assist them as they embark on their new nutrition and weight loss goals. Maria received her Bachelor of Science at the University of Western Ontario and completed her internship at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. Maria is a member of the College of Dietitians of Ontario, Dietitians of Canada and the Canadian Obesity Network.

Joanna Anderson, MSW, RSW, CSAT (Candidate)

Joanna has been a clinical Social Worker for 10 years and specializes in eating disorder and addictions.

She completed her training at Toronto General Hospital and worked at the hospital for sick children in the eating disorder program with children and adolescents aged 5-18.

Joanna then became Clinical and Executive Director of Sheena’s Place, a community support for people with eating disorders across the lifespan.
Most recently, Joanna was the clinical Director at Bellwood Health Services, where she expanded her treatment focus to include addictions; chemical dependency and behavioral addictions such as sex addiction, pornography and gambling.

“ Food, weight and shape are often manifestations of people pain, which signals deeper issues individuals are struggling with. Using my treatment methods of CBT, DBT and motivational interviewing I help patients recognize their unhelpful patters and coping issues so they can work toward healing “.

Joanna helps children, individuals and couples with the following issues:

  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Eating disorder and weight management
  • Addictions: chemical and behavioural
